Personality:
Aru Shah is a heroine.
Well, sort of. She triggered the end of the world when trying to save face with a bunch of bullies from her class. Constantly feeling pressured to live up to her classmates’ wealthy lives and experiences, Aru has a tendency to make up tall tales and exaggerating moments in her life to make her seem cool and interesting. She has a slight self-esteem complex where she constantly feels at odds with other people and often talks herself up to seem more interesting and fun to be around with. When faced with better people, Aru tends to feel defensive and out of place. As such, Aru often lies or resorts to lying if the situation seems beyond her control and she wants to retain a certain perception people have of her. That she can be worth knowing.
She loves movies and often quotes them around people. Genre-savvy by nature, Aru rarely makes silly mistakes of automatically trusting people or letting people in, preferring to keep a certain distance. Her mother is constantly busy and often unable to make time for Aru and her father figures are . . . complicated, leaving Aru to be extremely independent and choosing not to lean on other people. Even though she’s young, Aru is bright, cunning and able to think on her feet. She may not be the most book-smart or physically strong, but Aru has a way of thinking outside any box people may put her in and it is that ability that gets her out of the worst situations. With very few friends of her own, Aru often ends up being very blunt and sharp. She often will lash out with hurtful words easily and has a gift for aiming right for the most painful spot in someone’s heart. And while she often regrets it the moment she acts out, Aru does struggle to put herself forward and make amends (though she eventually does, for sure).
That being said, despite all of Aru’s flaws, she is capable of learning from them and working towards being better. While she struggles with her own self-esteem and the fact that she is the reincarnation of India’s most mythical and famous hero. She holds strongly to who she is as a person and not conforming to the standards of others, taking pride in her own ingenuity and strengths. And while she can be sharp-tongued, Aru is also always willing to make up for it and apologize. She often takes on the worst of curses and punishments so that the world and the people she loves can have a chance, Aru is astonishing selfless, seeing people first when it really matters before seeing herself. Even with her evil long lost father, Aru refuses to budge from the fact that he will cause harm to others and she is one of the few people who can stop him. With a strong sense of fairness and justice and also realizing that not all fairytales and stories give people a proper ending, Aru will always do what it takes to remember the sacrifices and prices but also look for a way to overturn it in her favor.
Aru Shah is a heroine. And she will always do what’s right.

Permissions for Character: Here
Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Things that challenge character perception, force them into uncomfortable situations and push them to their limits. Gore doesn’t frighten me as much as a lingering fear, things that can mess with the characters indirectly and slowly. Cryptids, things in the shadows, strange settings like underwater realms / alien worlds.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Body modification horror!
